The Kentucky Museum at Western Kentucky University marked Dolly Day on Friday, Sept. 25, with a giveaway of Dolly Parton-branded Duncan Hines cake mixes inside its permanent Duncan Hines exhibit, according to WBKO and the WKU Herald. WBKO and WNKY framed this year's Sept. 25 as a day to remember Parton in Kentucky.
The Details
- What: About 100 boxes of cake mix went to the first 100 visitors to enter the Duncan Hines exhibit, per WBKO and the WKU Herald.
- When: Friday, Sept. 25, first come, first served. Doors opened at 9 a.m., per the WKU Herald.
- Also on offer: The museum's theater room screened several of Parton's movies and historic interviews, and the museum offered Dolly-themed coloring activities for children and adults, per WBKO and the WKU Herald.
Why the Museum
Per the WKU Herald, Parton partnered with Duncan Hines in 2022 on a line of Southern-inspired cake mixes and frostings. The Kentucky Museum has a Duncan Hines exhibit and has hosted cake walks before, and its education curator suggested the giveaway, the Herald reported.
Sept. 25 is observed by communities around the country as a day for Parton, a nod to her song "9 to 5."
Before You Go
Whether any boxes remain is unconfirmed. The museum's hours and admission are also unconfirmed. Check ahead by calling the Kentucky Museum or visiting its page on the WKU website before making a trip.
