The Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society has opened a new free-roaming cat room, according to a WBKO report published Oct. 23. The room was built over several months, and shelter cats can move around it instead of staying in cages.
The Details
- What it is: A community cat room where, per WBKO, the shelter starts with six to eight cats at a time.
- What's inside: Cat trees, hiding spots and natural light, WBKO reports.
- What you can do: Spend time with the cats and read to them, according to WBKO. Information cards in the room cover each cat and whether it is available for adoption.
- Hours, cost and how to book a visit: WBKO did not report these. Check ahead with the shelter before you go.
Why It's Worth Your Time
Cages can hide a cat's personality. Leah Lawrence, the shelter's adoption center manager, told WBKO, "We get a lot of cats in, especially adults who just don't thrive in the environment of being in a cage."
The room is meant to change that. "We know these cats are wonderful companions at home, so we wanted to create a more home-like environment," Lawrence told WBKO.
What People Are Saying
- Lawrence told WBKO the feedback so far has been that "this room is just total relaxation."
- She also told WBKO, "I love seeing how relaxed the cats are in this room."
Before You Go
- Visiting hours, appointment rules and adoption fees were not in the WBKO report. Call or check the shelter's official channels before you make the trip.
- The room starts with six to eight cats, so the cats you meet may change from visit to visit. Check the information cards for adoption status.
- The shelter's Community Cat Program expanded to Allen County on Oct. 15, WBKO reported.
