Bowling Green has bought an empty lot near Russellville Road and Turner Court for a future Fire Station 9, WBKO reported Oct. 9, aimed at closing a gap in fire coverage on the city's west side.
The Details
- Where: an empty lot at Russellville Road and Turner Court, according to WBKO. The Bowling Green Daily News lists the parcel as "0 Turner Court."
- What: Fire Station 9, a new station for the Bowling Green Fire Department. WNKY reported the plan calls for the city's first two-story fire station, housing an engine company, an aerial truck company, two firefighting crews, and the fire prevention and fire investigation divisions.
- Next steps: WBKO reported that design work will begin soon, with hopes of breaking ground in spring 2027. The Daily News and WBKO have both reported a 2028 opening target.
- Cost: WBKO's report did not give a purchase price, and we found no sourced construction cost. Check ahead with the city.
Why It's Worth Your Time
According to WBKO, the department says the location fills a gap between Stations 3 and 4. The Bowling Green Daily News reported that Fire Chief Justin Brooks cited call volume and growth past Interstate 165 as the reasons for choosing the Russellville Road corridor.
If you live or work along that corridor, this is the area the department is looking to cover with a closer station.
How the Land Was Funded
The Daily News reported in July 2025 that city commissioners approved a $360,000 donation from the Koon Family Charitable Foundation to the fire department to help with land acquisition costs.
Before You Go
- Nothing changes for emergency response today. The station is still in the design phase, and the dates above are goals, not commitments.
- For official updates, see the city's fire districts page and watch for city announcements. Call 911 in an emergency as always.
